Elks History Project
Summary:
Several parts of the Elks website, aside from the core user path, were noticeably lacking in engagement. One such domain was the Elks History Project; a rich repository of archived photos, stories and magazines chronicling the broader Elks story dating back 150+ years. Members can contribute their media to be archived.
Efforts had been made to bolster such parts of the site in the past, yet it had fallen behind. The core functions of the site, namely the pipeline to membership applications and donations, were seen as more essential to the Elks business, and given their limited resources to address both, a vast majority of the site’s broader content remained derelict.
Through user research, we confirmed our suspicions; this section of the website lacked modern touches and was largely left ignored due to how tedious the process of finding the contributions menu was. Ultimately, The Elks History Project landing page, as well as several other pages, required fresh rebranding while preserving the nostalgic charm and navigation of the site they’ve come to know. While many of the pages remained untouched due to user feedback, we ultimately revitalized the site with a UI and Bootstrap update, which increased page traffic by 31% within a month.
